Market economies have fuelled unprecedented economic growth and innovation over the last two centuries. However, this progress has also led to the overconsumption of natural resources, pushing our planet beyond critical ecological limits. Sustainable finance and policies play a fundamental role in rebalancing economic progress with environmental responsibility.

At Lisbon Sustainability Week 2025, we will focus on:

  • The Pricing of Externalities: Addressing the cost of carbon, water, biodiversity, and toxicity.

  • Public Policy & Financial Markets: Exploring taxation, incentives, and innovative financial instruments for sustainability.

  • Corporate & Investment Strategies: How businesses and investors can integrate sustainability into business and financial decision-making.

  • Sustainability Reporting & Disclosure: Advancing the quality, comparability, and impact of ESG disclosures for decision-making and accountability.

Key Themes

How Can Finance Drive Sustainable Change?

·        What financial mechanisms and market innovations can align economic growth with sustainability?

·        How can externalities (e.g. carbon) be effectively priced and traded?

What Legacy Are We Building for Future Generations?
